Why AHBE filed a lawsuit against AIG

The New Hampshire Insurance Company (AIG), has a lot on its plate after the former ownership of Atlanta Hawks Basketball (AHBE), filed a lawsuit against it. This is after AIG seemed to have breached some terms of their contract when settling claims with the former general manager, Danny Ferry.

AHBE, which Bruce Levenson was part of, insisted that the lawsuit wasn’t meant to involve the current ownership of the NBA franchise. This claim was backed up by the spokesman of the current ownership.

Apart from breach of contract, AHBE, through their legal representatives, also sued AIG for insurance bad faith. This is because, according to AHBE, AIG did not respond to the claims, even after AHBE issued the insurance company with notice prior to the sale of the franchise to Anthony Ressler.

Apart from the expected repercussions that AIG may face, AHBE also wants the insurance company to pay an additional 50% penalty. The penalty is set to cater for the unpaid losses, and the funds used to hire attorneys. AIG has since remained silent on this matter, not replying to any email sent to them concerning the matter.

Ex Police Union Leader George Gascon in Trouble With San Francisco Police Union.

George Gascon, the District Attorney, has been said to make remarks disparaging minorities. This is the latest allegation against him in a dispute between him and the law enforcement forces. In a statement that Gary Delagnes, former Police Officers Association President made under penalty of perjury, Gascon made the remarks during a dinner in Cambridge, Mass six years ago. By then Gascon was the chief of San Francisco Police Department.
According to Delagnes, Gascon became so loud that even an African-American patron approached Gascon asking him to stop the behavior since he was offending his family. He referred to the African Americans as "Four Dumb Black Guys". These were some cops working under him. Gascon also blamed the influx of drug dealing business in LA to Mexicans.
Gascon has also received allegations of referring to the city’s Yemen and Afghanistan communities as terrorists. He said that they could just park a van outside the Hall of Justice at 850 Bryant and blow it up. Gascon has however stated that he never meant this and people are just reading too much about his statements.
Gascon and the police union have disagreed over the DAs decision to convene Blue Ribbon Panel on Transparency, Fairness, and Accountability. The three-judge panel is charged with looking out for potential bias in the Police Department. Gascon has been accusing the police union of making the investigations hard though POA denies these allegations.
A series of declarations released by the union to the public called Gascon a hypocrite. It insisted that Gascon shouldn’t have handpicked the panel meant to investigate police misconduct. The declarations release has been seen as a victory for the union in their battle with Gascon. They say Gascon’s intentions are politically motivated.
Delagnes has said that he and Chief Gascon resolved many outstanding police officers disciplinary actions together but never at one time did Gascon complain to Delagnes about the discipline system or the approach taken by POA. Gascon never mentioned on his belief that SFPD was affected by race, gender or sexual orientation of its members. According to Delagnes, Gascon’s public comments are completely at odds with his conduct when he served as chief.
