Sujit Choudhry: Shifting to Democracy

Sujit Choudhry is an active professor at the University Of California, Berkeley School Of Law, and he is also known as the founder and the current director of the Center for Constitutional Transitions. Recently, he went to Ukraine’s capital, Kiev, to speak with several constitutional experts to discuss some issues concerning the government of Ukraine. The state wanted to change its semi-presidential system, and they are currently facing a lot of constitutional challenges so they are appealing to international bodies to help them decide how they can change their government and what form of government would suit them best.

Promoting a Democratic Government

The conference was organized by some of the most influential groups and people in Ukraine, like the Center of Policy and Legal Reform, and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance. Both organizations are democracy inclined, meaning that they are promoting a democratic government to states who are in the process of transition. Together with the remaining Ukrainian government officials, Sujit Choudhry and the groups supporting democracy showed a series of resources pointing out why democracy is the best form of government in the present day. The government officials who are present during the summit are impressed in what they have seen, and they are convinced that the country should fully shift into a democratic type of government. Sujit Choudhry focuses on international laws and relations, and he is already an expert when it comes to international politics. He established the Center for Constitutional Transitions because he wanted to help states that wanted to shift their constitution into a democratic type of government.
